2008:

Currently Reading:

A New Earth ... by Eckhart Tolle .... Oprah's book pick; just starting to get into it and it is a powerful book!

Already Read:

Mozart's Ghost ... by Julia Cameron .... recommended by my friend Heather, it's a good book so far; sort of simple, but cute and sometimes just want I need.

Basic Black ... by Cathie Black.... great, logical read for anyone, no matter what age, for your professional and personal lives; great advice! Ms. Black used to work at Ms. and New York magazines, as well at USA Today newspaper and now is Prez at Hearst.

Nature Girl ... by Carl Hiaasen.... after reading Skinny Dipping by the same author, I thought I'd try another one; it's a neurotic, funny story so far, but not as gripping as Skinny.

Fair Game ... by Valerie Plame .... interesting to read a book that has been edited by the CIA and see it printed like that; makes it a "game" to figure out what they struck out. Fascinating read so far.

Playing for Pizza ... by John Grisham ... a small novel by Grisham, a little different than his usual legal drama stuff, but a cute tale on a down-and-out NFL quarterback who goes to Italy to find his life.

Celebrity Detox ... by Rosie O'Donnell ... well, she is blunt, truthful (for her) and bold in what fame is all about and how it really it's real. She talks a lot about Barbara Walters and the show, The View. A quick, fun read.

The Kite Runner ... by Khaled Hosseini ...what a great book! I swore it was autobiographical, but I'm sure most of it is from the author's background. Can't wait to see the movie. Good to read something from the history of countries that are so much in the news right now.

Still Summer ... by Jacquelyn Mitchard... the same author from "The Deep End of the Ocean" which was Oprah's first book of her now infamous Book Club. What a good, scary, sitting on the edge of your seat type of book.

Skinny Dipping ... by Carl Hiaasen... a friend gave me this book and what fun it was! Sweet justice from a wife to her dastardly, scheming, soon-to-be ex-husband. Worth reading!

Harry Potter, The Deathly Hallows ... by J.K. Rowling... the best one yet! I know a couple of friends who have already re-read this one. I don't know if I'll do that, but I will keep this one and probably re-read #6 before the movie comes out.

The Diana Chronicles ... by Tina Brown... Ms. Brown, former editor of the British Tatler and U.S. Vanity Fair magazines and who knew Princess Diana personally wrote an in-depth, focused presentation on Diana's life, no matter how emotionally bereft Diana really was most of her life and craving the normalcy of a loving romantic and family life. Very good!

The Road ... by Cormac McCarthy ... an Oprah's Book Club selection; what a horrific subject (the end of the world, essentially) ... how a father and his son travel the roads across America to reach a coast, to find better prospects ... what a page turner!

Eat Pray Love ... by Elizabeth Gilbert ... a woman's journey (true story) after a divorce and failed love affair in discovering herself and in that process, taking a year off and spending 3 months in Rome, 3 months at an ashram in India and then 3 months in Indonesia.

Full of Grace ... by Dorothea Benton Frank.. a quickie, romantic beach book.

Double Bind ... by Chris Bohjalian... saw this at Barnes & Noble and was just intrigued by the cover and the mini writeup on the inside cover ... what a great mystery! I didn't get it to the very end.

Simple Genius ... by Daniel Baldacci... as usual, a good - but simple - suspense novel bringing back two characters from a previous book ... a great beach book.

The Measure of a Man: A Spiritual Biography ... by Sidney Poitier... wonderfully written and such delight and joy expressed during his childhood in the Bahamas.

Where Have All the Leaders Gone? ... by Lee Iocacca... simple, small book to read, but logical in all his thoughts about everything from the Bush administration (he starts on the very first page about Bush Jr.), to the selling of Chrysler (before 2007) and to our immigration problems. Well worth the read!

The Audacity of Hope ... by Barack Obama... the latest on Princess Diana; a bit of a fluff book so far, but I did love Diana...what a wonderful human being to die so young and tragically.

2006:

Lessons in Becoming Myself ... by Ellen Burstyn... a biography of the famous actress, who I can't believe is 74 as of 2006; she looks stunning! and what a life she has led...another Sadge like me, she has lived life to the fullest and experienced the highs and definitely the lows of life. WONDERFUL BOOK! and what a life Ms. Burstyn has led!

To the Nines ... byJanet Evanovich...a book I had bought from a used book store a few years ago and finally got around to reading; cute...with the main character of Stephanie Plum, who is used in other books by Ms. Evanovich.

The Way We Were ... by Paul Burell ... the latest on Princess Diana; a bit of a fluff book so far, but I did love Diana...what a wonderful human being to die so young and tragically.

Killing Time ... by Linda Howard... (read on the cruise in Sept. '06) ... good paperback I picked up on the ship; deals with time travel and of course, the romance

Mathc Me if You Can ... by Susan Elizabeth Phillips... (read on the cruise in Sept. '06) ... another paperback I picked up on the ship; cute romantic story

The Binghams of Louisville: The Dark History Behind On e of America's Great Fortunes... by David Leon Chandler... (read on the cruise in Sept. '06) what a great read! I had this book for awhile and took it on the cruise to read and it was a fascinating story about the Binghams. If you find the book at a yard sale, library, whatever, pick it up.

The Jury Master ... by Robert Dugoni ... good legal thriller, in the vein of Grisham, but worth the read

Modern Women ... by Ruth Harris ... a good trashy novel ... just what I needed.

Jack, Straight from the Gut ... by Jack Welch with John A. Byrne ... a wonderful book! Jeez, I wish I had worked under his administration at GE. Seems like he truly understands the importance of the employee! Gee, what a concept!

The Year of Magical Thinking... by Joan Didion ...This book was on several 2005 Top 10 Best books of the year and it was winner of the National Book Awards. This book was about the year after Joan's husband, John Gregory Dunne, had died and her "magical thinking" of if he would return; it also covered the illness of her daughter, Quintana, who was ill before her dad died and then died a little over a year after her dad passed. A wonderful book that is not morbid about death.

Night ... by Elie Wiesel ... Oprah's Book Club ... another memoir but one that probably won't go thru the wringer that James Frey's did in January '06. A very good read of the tragedies and triumphs of the concentration camps.

1776 ... by David McCullough (couldn't get into it)
